Citizenship & Naturalization

To become an American citizen you must have:

• A minimum of 5 years of legal permanent residence. There is an exception if you have lived with and been married to an American citizen for 3 years.

• You have basic English speaking and writing skills, and have basic knowledge of the history and government of the United States. There are exceptions if you are a resident for more than 15 years or if you have a medical condition.

• Have good moral conduct.
